Scan documents offline: ToPDF works without internet
· Using ToPDF
Because ToPDF does all its work on your device, the internet is only needed once — to deliver the app and its scanning engine. From the second visit on, you can scan in a basement, on a plane, or on the road with zero signal.
How offline mode happens (nothing to configure)
On your first visit, ToPDF downloads its engine — the computer-vision library and the small AI models for edge detection, orientation and text reading — and your browser caches all of it. You'll see a one-time progress bar (“Getting your device ready”). That's it: afterwards, opening topdf.online works with or without a connection.
What works offline
- Scanning new photos, auto-crop, the corner editor, enhancement
- Automatic orientation and file-name suggestions
- Multi-page documents, reordering, rotating
- Downloading the PDF (sharing depends on the target app)
In other words: everything that matters. There is no hidden server step to miss.

Frequently asked questions
How big is the one-time download?
Roughly the size of a few minutes of video — around 55 MB, cached by the browser. It happens once per device/browser, with a visible progress bar.
If I clear my browser data, is offline gone?
Clearing site data removes the cached engine; the next online visit re-downloads it automatically. Nothing else is lost because ToPDF stores no documents.
Do file-name suggestions need the internet?
No — the text recognition models are part of the cached engine and run locally.
