ToPDF

Which photo formats can I scan? JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP — all handled

· Quick answers

Short version: if a device near you produced the picture, ToPDF almost certainly opens it. The supported set — JPG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, WebP — covers cameras, screenshots, messengers and the modern web.

The formats, one line each

  • JPG/JPEG: every camera's default — the workhorse.
  • HEIC/HEIF: iPhone's efficient default; converted internally, on-device. (More.)
  • PNG: screenshots and graphics — scans fine, becomes a normal PDF page.
  • WebP: the web's format; images saved from sites and some apps arrive as this.

The oddballs

  • PDF as input: not accepted — ToPDF's input is pictures; PDF is its output. To re-scan a page that lives in a PDF, export/screenshot that page as an image first.
  • RAW/DNG: convert to JPEG in your camera app's export — RAW is a development format, overkill for paper.
  • GIF: technically an image; practically never a document. Screenshot the frame if you must.

Frequently asked questions

Do formats differ in scan quality?

The photo’s light and sharpness dominate; format is packaging. HEIC/JPEG straight from the camera is ideal; screenshots of photos are one generation worse than the originals.

What happens with an unsupported file?

A clear message — nothing crashes, batches continue with the images that work.
