Why did my scan open the corner editor instead of finishing?
· Quick answers
Most scans go straight to the finished page. Sometimes, instead, you land in the corner editor with a pre-drawn outline. That's deliberate: the scanner wasn't confident enough to crop silently, so it asks — the alternative would be occasionally slicing your document without telling you.
What triggers the confirmation
- Low-contrast edges: white paper on pale surfaces.
- Skewed or suspicious geometry: the best-found outline looks lopsided, or an edge seems to cut through content (a fold mistaken for a border, a clipped ID line).
- Clutter: competing rectangles near the document.
- Nothing found at all: you get a default box to place yourself.
Breezing through it
The pre-filled corners are usually 90% right — nudge the stragglers with the magnifier and tap Apply crop: five seconds, correct result. To see the editor less often, feed detection better contrast — the checklist's dark-background rule alone removes most visits.
Frequently asked questions
Is a scan that needed the editor lower quality?
Not at all — after your confirmation it runs the identical correction and enhancement pipeline. Confidence routing is about crop placement, not image quality.
Can I always review corners even when it’s confident?
Yes — Adjust crop is available on every page afterwards, non-destructively.
