Scan paper bank statements safely
· Document guides
Landlords, visa officers and loan processors love bank statements. Banks give PDFs for recent months — but the older statement in the drawer, or the stamped one from a branch, exists only on paper. Scan it like the sensitive document it is.
Multi-page, in order, complete
- Photograph every page — including the last one with the closing balance, the page checkers flip to first.
- Batch-select in ToPDF → one PDF, pages in order (drag any strays into place).
- Verify at zoom: account holder, account number/IBAN, period, balances.
- Name precisely: “Statement-{Bank}-2026-Q1.pdf”.
Redact what the recipient doesn’t need
If the requester only needs to see salary credits or the balance, you may black out unrelated transaction lines on a copy — many landlords explicitly allow it. Do it honestly (cover, don't alter figures they need) and keep the unredacted original. When rules say “unredacted”, comply through their secure channel.
Handling and storage
Statements enable convincing fraud narratives. On-device scanning keeps the copy off third-party servers; from there, store it encrypted or in a trusted account with 2FA, send only through the requester's official upload portal when one exists, and delete leftovers from chat threads after the process ends. Frequently asked questions
Bank PDF vs scan — which do requesters prefer?
The bank’s own PDF when available (it’s born-digital and sometimes verifiable). A clean scan of a paper statement is the accepted equivalent when that’s what exists — stamped branch printouts especially.
Can I combine several months into one file?
Yes, up to the 20-page limit; label the span in the name. For long histories, one file per quarter keeps sizes email-friendly.
