Do I need an account to scan? No — and there’s nothing to sign into
· Quick answers
No account exists to create. There's no registration form anywhere in the flow, no login wall before download, no “continue with Google”. Open the page, scan, save — done.
Why no accounts, structurally
Accounts exist so services can store things about you — files, history, preferences, marketing consent. ToPDF stores none of that: scans are processed on your device and saved to your storage; there's no server-side anything to attach an identity to. The account is absent because its purpose is absent. (The deeper case.)
What you might miss (and what covers it)
- Scan history / library: your file system is the library — better named, better backed up, yours.
- Cross-device sync: your existing file sync (Drive, iCloud, whatever) already does this for the PDFs you save.
- Preferences: the one setting (theme) is remembered by your browser locally.
Frequently asked questions
How do you prevent abuse without accounts?
There’s nothing to abuse server-side — no storage, no compute, no quotas. The economics of on-device tools make abuse-prevention infrastructure unnecessary.
Can I use it on a shared computer safely?
Yes — with no login there’s no session to forget to log out of. Downloaded PDFs go to that machine’s storage, so save to a USB/your cloud and clear Downloads if the machine isn’t yours.
